EVE SUSSMAN

Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York

BIOGRAPHY

Eve Sussman works in video, installation, sculpture and photography.  Born in 1961 in England, Sussman studied throughout Europe, but ultimately received her BFA in the United States from Bennington College.  For the last decade, Sussman has sought to instill her various film and installation pieces with a sense of cinema verité, a technique in which the filmmaker shoots sound and picture separately, ultimately shaping visual material around sound. In her more recent works, Sussman has suggested an interest in the nature of group dynamics, particularly among the actors she works with, in order to explore the universality of human condition.  In 2003, during the production of her acclaimed piece 89 Seconds at Alcazar, Sussman founded the Rufus Corporation, a group of artists, actors, musicians and dancers.  She continues to collaborate with this group today, showing their works throughout Europe and the United States.
